Course Description
Introduction to concepts, principles, processes and uses of accounting data generated for financial reporting.

Textbook Requirements
Financial Accounting, Kimmel, Weygandt and Kieso, 5th Edition

Course Prerequisites
Three hours of college-level math (may be taken concurrently)

Course Format and Participation Requirements
The format for this course includes scheduled assignments and deadlines, offline reading assignments, online readings and participation using email and discussion boards. The course includes scheduled online quizzes, activities and exams. The course also requires some scheduled face-to-face meetings as indicated below. All exams are online except the final, for which students will be required to come to campus.  To be successful in this course, the typical student should plan to spend at least 12-15 hours per week working on this course.

On-campus or Face-to-Face Meeting Requirements
A face-to-face orientation will be held at the beginning of the semester. The date of this meeting will be posted on WebCT.

Course Assessment
Coursework will be graded on a point system. This will be discussed in more detail in the course.

Effort Expected
This is a 3-credit-hour course. You should expect to work 3 to 4 hours per week for each credit hour.  To be successful in this course you should expect to spend about 12 hours a week on readings, assignments, discussions, and other activities. This estimate is for the fall and spring semesters; if the course is offered during the summer course, more time per week may be necessary.

Before the Course Begins

  • Activate mySFA username, password, and email
  • Register and pay for the course just as you would any other SFA course.
