Information Technology - Information system concepts including current and emerging issues of technology, software systems, telecommunications and the role of information systems used by management to address business and organizational needs. Examination of the systems development life cycle and the role of security, ethical, and privacy issues in systems. Prerequisite: CSC 121 or equivalent.

None.Course Format and Participation Requirements
This is not a self-paced course! The format for this course includes scheduled assignments and deadlines, offline reading assignments and projects, and participation using web pages, email, discussion boards, and chat. Students will be required to complete team assignments for each of five units in the course as well as complete a team final webpage presentation. All exams are online. To be successful in this course, the typical student should plan to spend at least 12-15 hours per week working in this course.On-campus or Face-to-Face Meeting Requirements
There will not be a required face-to-face meeting. However, one face-to-face meeting will be scheduled at the beginning of the course for students who would like to be introduced to the course or for those who would like to form their team.Evaluation
- Participation: Students are to complete weekly assignments and meet all deadlines. NO late assignments will be accepted.
- All assignments will be graded on content, spelling, grammar, clarity, etc.
- Team Research Presentation: At the end of the semester, teams will upload a webpage over an information technology topic.
- Examinations: Five exams will be given covering the content of the required readings in the textbook.
Grading Procedure
Approximately 1344 total points: (Instructor reserves the right to add or delete assignments which can result in change of estimated points)Total Case Points - 315 (23% of total points)
Unit Opening Cases - 5 @ 5 points = 25 points
Unit Closing Cases - 10 @ 10 points = 100 points
Chapter Cases - 19 @ 10 points = 190 pointsUnit exams - 3 @ 126 and 2 @ 120 points = 618 points (46% of total points)
Team research/presentation - 5 @ 20 points, 1 @ 100 points, 2 @ 25 points = 250 points (19% of total points)
Chapter Quizzes - 38 @ variable points = 161 points (12% of total points)A = 89.5% - 100%
B = 79.5% - 89.4%
C = 69.5% - 79.4%
D = 59.5% - 69.4%
F = 0% - 59.4%Effort Expected
This is a 3-credit-hour course. You should expect to work 4 to 5 hours per week for each credit hour. To be successful in this couse you should excpect to spend about 15 hours a week on readings, assignments, discussions, and other activities. This estimate is for the fall and spring semesters; if the course is offered during the summer term, more time per week may be necessary.Technical Requirements for the Course
