An in-depth study of records management programs for organizations. Hands-on application is included with an appropriate database management software program.This course is a requirement for Office Systems majors, a requirement for business teacher certification, an option for General Business Majors, and an upper level business elective for majors, minors, and non-business majors.

Course Prerequisites
Completion of CSC 121 or equivalent.Course Format and Participation Requirements
This course is NOT self-paced. The format for this course includes scheduled assignments and deadlines, offline reading assignments and projects, online readings and participation using web pages, email, discussion boards, and chat. The course includes scheduled online quizzes and exams. The course also requires a scheduled face-to-face meeting as indicated below. In addition, students are required to arrange a visit to see the records of a business. This will be part of a team project related to records management.On-campus or Face-to-Face Meeting Requirements
There will be a required face-to-face orientation for this class on Wednesday, January 15, 2003, from 7-9 p.m., in Room 224. It is YOUR responsibility to e-mail me at mbayless@sfasu.edu to let me know that you will attend the orientation. In addition, if you do not have convenient access to Microsoft Access 2002, you will need to use the McGee Business Lab on campus.Course Assessment
The course grade will be determined by the following criteria:
Three exams over textbooks plus the final exam 400 points Access lab assignments and job 250 points Computer access project 250 points Company report (team) 200 points Quizzes, chats, discussions, etc., 200 points Estimated total points 1300 points Technical Requirements for the Course
Other than the minimum technical requirements for any course, students will need access to a computer with an Internet connection. Your computer should also have Microsoft Access 2002. This is the only acceptable version of Access. Lower versions are not acceptable. If you do not have such access to the software, you may access the software at the McGee Computer Lab on the third floor of the McGee Business Building on campus. Keep in mind, however, that the McGee Lab's hours may not be as flexible as you would like. If you decide to purchase your own version of the software, be sure that your computer hardware will support the software package. Some assignments do not take much time while others may take several hours. In addition to the Microsoft Access 2002, you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader and Powerpoint in order to review some assignments and presentations.Before the Course Begins
