Course Description
A comprehensive and rigorous application of a wide variety of analytical techniques to music from all periods and styles. In addition to traditional analysis, this course will include Schenkerian analysis, atonal set theory, serial analysis, basic style analysis, and other analytical techniques. The course will involve a number of scholarly analysis papers covering a specific works.

Textbook Requirements
Readings will be provided or assigned by the instructor as needed.

Course Prerequisites
Successful Completion of the Graduate Entrance Exam in Theory.

Course Format and Participation Requirements
The format for this course includes scheduled assignments and deadlines, offline reading assignments and projects, online readings and participation using email, and discussion boards. Lessons may include streaming video.  The course includes scheduled online quizzes and exams. 

On-campus or Face-to-Face Meeting Requirements
Face-to-Face meetings are not required, but are available upon request.
