Course Description
A bridge course, from RN to BSN, which focuses on introductory key concepts of professionalism.  These concepts include development of nursing - past, present and future; theories and issues; integration of the nursing process; communication and interpersonal relationships; roles; health promotion/wellness/healing; accountability and responsibility; collegiality; team building; change; ethics; teaching/learning, and law and politics in nursing.

Course Prerequisites
RN license (exception’s may be made for GN’s.  Credit for the course is contingent upon a passing score on the RN licensing exam) and completion of sufficient degree requirement courses, as determined by faculty.

Course Format and Participation Requirements
This is an online course that includes discussion board, activities, individual assignments and clinical projects.

Independent Study Clinical:  Each student will be expected to develop a contract for his/her independent study clinical hours related to professional issues in nursing.  Remember to be very specific and have your outcomes measurable so grading will be straightforward.  The range of topics you may choose is only limited to your interest and imagination.   You are encouraged to pick a topic of real interest and to challenge yourself!  I am available for consultation on your topic and/or your contract.  The contract is negotiable and must be acceptable to both parties.  Samples are available from previous semesters if you need help thinking of a project. All submitted assignments become the property of the School of Nursing .

Course Assessment
Students enrolled in Nursing 303 are expected to be self-directed in their learning and to be prepared for learning and clinical activities using prior knowledge, assigned learning activities. Faculty will serve as resource persons.
Students will negotiate/contract for clinical experiences with faculty and community agencies, as indicated.  Completed contract is due by the first class period.  Students are expected to keep faculty apprised of course progress, as well as any difficulties encountered in meeting the course requirements.  Evaluation methods include self and faculty analysis of course work and may include clinical conferences with preceptors, learning activities, and clinical assignments.
Part of the evaluation assignment is to keep a log to include clinical activities, and the amount of time spent in each activity.
A grade of 70% is required to progress in the program.

Effort Expected
This is an 8-credit-hour course.

TOTAL: 70 HOURS DIDACTIC/126 HOURS CLINICAL

Technical Requirements for the Course
Other than the minimum technical requirements for any course, students will need  access to a CD-ROM drive, VCR, video camcorder, color printer, PowerPoint software, Real Player software, etc.

Before the Course Begins

  • As soon as you are registered, please send an email message to the instructor.

  • Complete your Clinical Contract for instructor's approval
