Course Description
Nursing 425 is an online study course for RN Transition Students.  In this course students integrated core concepts into clinical practice and complete Phase 2 of clinical projects (individual) that were initiated in Nursing 303.  It includes online study content and clinical contracts.

Textbook Requirements

Required Texts:
Creasia, J.L. and Parker, B. (2007).  Conceptual Foundations: The Bridge to Professional Nursing Practice.  St. Louis : Mosby, Inc. (Course will use Evolve.Elsevier.com for online).

Course Prerequisites
Completion of NUR 303, Nursing Theory, Process and Skills

Course Format and Participation Requirements

Theory/Clinical:
Total:  Approximately 80 hours.

Clinical hours are to include work on individual clinical projects according to negotiated contract as well as assigned readings, discussion board and assignments.

Course Assessment
Students enrolled in Nursing 425 are expected to be self-directed in their learning.  They are responsible for carrying out the learning activities as specified in their individual learning contracts and in the syllabus.  Faculty will be resource persons.  Students will negotiate/contract for clinical experiences with faculty and with community agencies as indicated.  Students are expected to keep faculty apprised of course progress and any difficulties they encounter in meeting the course requirements.  Each week students will contact faculty either through e-mail, fax, mail, and telephone or in person to report on their clinical progress as well submit required written and discussion board assignments.
Students are to submit a log that includes types of content and clinical activities and the amount of time spent in each activity.

 Effort Expected
This is a 6-credit-hour course. You are expected to spend at least 80 hours on your clinical contract and 10-15 hours/week on readings and discussion assignments. 

Technical Requirements for the Course
Other than the minimum technical requirements for any course, students will need  access to a CD-ROM drive, VCR, video camcorder, color printer, PowerPoint software, Real Player software, etc.]

Before the Course Begins

  • Register and pay for the course just as you would any other SFA course.
  • As soon as you are registered, please send an email message to the instructor.
