Course Description
An examination of early literacy of young children, issues, theories, and content related to early literacy, assessment, and explicit reading instruction.Textbook Requirements

Admission to Graduate School and Teacher Education. Must have GRE score (minimum score 750) on file before the end of the semester in which this course is taken.Course Format and Participation Requirements
The format for this course includes scheduled assignments and deadlines, offline reading assignments, online readings and participation using web pages, research, accessing library sources, email, streamed videos ,and discussion boards. Candidates must have access to a small group of children (3-5) ranging from kindergarten to second grade with whom they will administer reading/writing assessments and teach a variety of lessons.Make arrangements now to visit the SFA campus in August to take a capstone exam administered in RDG 504. This is a state secure exam that must be taken on campus towards the end of the Summer Session II. It cannot be mailed to a proctor.
