Course Description
Course content is designed to prepare the educational diagnostician for the professional roles and responsibilities consistent with federal and state guidelines. This course is designed in coordination with state and national educational diagnostician standards.

Course Format and Participation Requirements
The format for this course includes scheduled assignments and deadlines, offline reading assignments and projects, online readings and participation using web pages, email, discussion boards, and chat. The course includes scheduled online quizzes and exams. The course also requires some visits to the campus to pick-up and exchange assessment kits and score protocols. All exams are online. To be successful in this course, the typical student should plan to spend at least 12-15 hours per week working on this course.

On-campus or Face-to-Face Meeting Requirements
Visits to the campus are necessary in order to pick-up and exchange assessment kits and score protocols using a compuscore program. The number of visits will vary per student.

Course Assessment

1.  Protocols and Reports: Candidates are required to conduct assessments using different standardized instruments for a total of 8 graded administrations. Protocols will be graded based on accurate administration, scoring, and interpretation of the tests.

2. Assigned Readings: Points will be earned by participating in Discussion Boards and/or assessed by quizzes.

3. Quizzes: Each assessment  will have 2 quizzes for a total of 14 quizzes in the first learning module. Other learning modules will also have quizzes over assignment readings.

4. Assignments: Each learning module will have assignments. The assignment may be an information seeking activity or a graded assignment that will be turned in to the professor.

5. Assessment Exam (comprehensive)

Effort Expected
This is a 3-credit-hour course. You should expect to work 3 to 5 hours per week for each credit hour.  To be successful in this course you should expect to spend about 12-15 hours a week on readings, assignments, discussions, and other activities.

Technical Requirements for the Course
Other than the minimum technical requirements for any course, students will need  PowerPoint software, Real Player software, and Quick Time software.

Before the Course Begins

  • Be accepted into the Graduate School and the Educational Diagnostician Program.
  • Contact Dr. Paige R. Mask and request a permit.
  • Register and pay for the course just as you would any other SFA course.
  • Complete the Getting Started area of sfaonline.
  • As soon as you are registered, please send an email message to the instructor.
  • Carefully read and complete all steps of Getting a myCourses Username and PIN.
  • F-1 Visa Holders
