How to Export/Import Quizzes

To move (export) one or more quizzes from one myCourses class to another, go to the Assessments tool.

  1. To move just one quiz, pull down the ActionLink menu for that quiz and select Export. The file browser will appear.
  2. Select the class to which you want to export the files (if you leave it where it is, the file will be saved in the File Manager of the class you are in).
  3. Be sure to enter a file name in the Save As box at the bottom.
  4. Click OK. You should get an export succeeded message. Be sure to read any errors or warning on the log produced.

To move several (or all) of the quizzes, select them from the Assessments list, then click Export at the bottom of the page. Carry on from #2 above.

To put them in the other class (import):

  1. Enter the receiving class.
  2. Click Manage Course.
  3. Click Import.
  4. Find the file you saved earlier.

Click OK. You will get a success message.

How to Backup Courses

  1. Click on the Build tab
  2. Click on Manage Course
  3. Click Backup
  4. Click Back Up Course; the course will be added to the Backup queue.
  5. Click OK. The course will appear in the list of backed up courses with a status of "Completed".
  6. Beside the name of the course backup, from the ActionLink menu, select Save As File. The Browse for Location window will open.
  7. It is recommended to save the backup in My Files. You can change the file name in the Save As: box at the bottom of the window (be sure to leave the .bak extension.)
  8. Click OK. A task bar will track the progress until the backup is safely stored.
  9. Go to File Manager/My Files and download the backup file to archive media (Documents folder on your computer, a CD, or a flash drive) for safe keeping.

Note: Individual users cannot restore the backups--contact OIT to have a file restored.

Establish certain activities at the beginning of the course:

To determine 12th day participation, establish certain activities at the beginning of the course that serve as a benchmark for participation and continuation in the course. Some instructors deny access if students do not meet the benchmark at that point.
